MAIN NEWS HEADLINESJan 30 - Feb 05, 2012 Edition Nominations Accepted for the Medill Journalism MedalEVANSTON, Ill.,/AUTHORLINK NEWS/ Feb. 2, 2012 --Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications is currently taking nominations for the Medill Medal for Courage in Journalism. The award is given to the individual or team of journalists, working for a U.S.-based media outlet, who best displayed moral, ethical or physical courage in the pursuit of a story or series of stories. All submissions - which may be local, national or international in scope - must have been published during the 2011 calendar year. The winner receives a $5,000 prize and a medal bearing the likeness of Joseph Medill, who spent more than 40 years during the mid-19thcentury as editor, publisher and owner of the Chicago Tribune. The award is shared for a team entry. Last year, the Associated Press' Jonathan Katz received the award for his in-depth coverage of the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, February 29, 2012. Print entries should be submitted in 8.5x11 format for easy handling by the judges. Please include four copies of all material. Television entries should submit four DVDs. Radio entries should submit four CDs. Online entries should provide a URL. Please include a brief description of how the entry displays courage, a biography of the nominee, as well as contact information for the nominee and nominator.
