Justice Department Urges Restructuring of Google Settlement

Department of Justice (DOJ) said in a 26-page legal brief filed last week that many of the initially identified problems in the Google settlement between authors and publishers remain unresolved in the amended document. HarperCollins Sees Three-Fold Income Growth in Second Quarter

Steinbeck, Guthrie Back Google Settlement, Others Balk

Amazon Ups Author Royalties on Some Kindle Books

Effective June 30, authors and publishers will earn 70 percent of a book’s list price, less delivery costs. Book Sales Hold a Few Year-End Surprises

Summary: NEW YORK, NY/AUTHORLINK NEWS/01/06/10--Overall unit sales of books through December 20 totaled 724 million, a drop of only 3% compared to 2008, according to Nielsen BookScan (via www.crainsnewyork.com) which tracks the majority of book sales. Surprisingly, adult fiction rose slightly to 208 million units, a gain of about 1,000 units over the previous year. However, nonfiction titles were off 7% (227 million units) from the previous year.
