Marcia Preston has just published her second novel with Mira/Harlequin, titled THE PIANO MAN, a sensitive and insightful account of a devastated woman determined to reconnect with her deceased son by saving the life of the man who received his heart.

Claire O' Neal is a single mother whose life revolves around her teenage son, Nathan. When Nathan dies as the result of a serious highway accident his heart is donated and implanted into another man. Claire is obsessed with seeking out the man who received her son's heart in the hope of assuring herself that her son's life was not wasted.

Here, Marcia Preston talks about the trials and triumphs of her long writing career and of how she at last broke into Mira for the first time. "I nearly gave up," she says. "I thought they had lost the manuscript. Then the editor called me one day and said she loved the manuscript." That work was to become her first Mira success, Butterfly House, which would ultimately earn her another contract for The Piano Man.

Writing as M.K. Preston, Marcia is the author of an Oklahoma mystery series featuring Chantalene Morrell, which won the 2004 Mary Higgins Clark Award for suspense fiction. For many years, she has edited and published Byline, a trade magazine for aspiring writers. Marcia lives with her husband, Paul, beside a creek in central Oklahoma.
